Search Tips

Quick Search Hint: Enter Last Name and first letter of First Name only. Add more search criteria, such as birth year or burial place, only if your search yields too many responses.

To search quickly

Use the Standard Search and search by name without specifying a location or date. This is the fastest search available.

To see a list of all burials in a cemetery

Using the Standard Search, select the radio button next to Cemetery under Burial Place and select the cemetery from the drop down list. Leave all other fields blank. This will provide an alphabetical list of all names for that cemetery, 20 names at a time. If you see no names, it means that we don't yet have the records for the cemetery in our database.

If you can't find a name

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I find the cemetery or name I'm looking for?
This an ongoing project. The database contains cemetery records for about 600,000 people buried in Utah, but we continue to add Utah cemeteries and burials to the database.

I found the person I'm looking for, but the database doesn't have the information I need.
You can find only cemetery records on the database - not all the information available about a person! You will need to search other places to find more information.

Why do I only get 100 hits?
The database can only return 100 hits at a time. So if you can't find the name in the first 100 hits, you must refine your search with more specific information. You could enter a first name, a cemetery, dates, or other specific information to narrow the search.

I found an error in the database. What should I do?
Contact the cemetery involved so that they can make the correction in their database. They will then upload the corrected data to our database. If the cemetery is abandoned and unmanaged, please contact Amy Oliver at 801-245-7247. Be prepared to provide appropriate documentation, such as a photo of the headstone, or copy of the birth or death certificate, showing the information to be corrected. You can get contact information for cemetery management offices by clicking on the name of the cemetery in a burial record.

Why does the database keep "timing out"?
This happens with AOL. If you are an AOL user, you must open and use a browser (like Explorer or Firefox) outside of AOL.

How often do you update the latest burials?
At this time, we don't update the database on a regular basis. Currently the project is focusing on getting records from every cemetery. Once that is accomplished, updates will occur.
